Moro Builds the MEA Largest Tier III Sustainable Data Center Empowered by Huawei ModularDC with SmartLi UPS Solution

Customer Background

Moro Hub, subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (PJSC). Forming the backbone of Digital DEWA, Moro Hub was established to fulfil the need for an innovative and agile data center in 2017. Through its purpose-built, industry-accredited data hub, Moro Hub uses its expertise, capabilities and alliances to contribute to the digital transformation of society. Moro Hub's strategic location houses government-grade security and operational expertise in a purpose-built hub. In addition to being certified Tier 3 by Uptime Institute for design and construction and a Level 3+ STAR, it is the first LEED Gold facility in the region.

Project Background & Challenges

As a part of the Dubai 10X initiative to make Dubai 10 years ahead of world cities, Moro Hub announced the kickoff of building its largest sustainable Uptime TIER III Certified Data Centre in the world located at Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park - the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer. According to Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to produce 100% of Dubai's total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, the decision is in lines with Nation's goal of Green national economy.

To achieve Moro Hub's vision, the company has selected a greener alternative to traditional brick and mortar, by deploying a prefabricated data center that can achieve substantially lower carbon footprint in the full supply chain of the data center building. Further to achieve the Green Data center objectives, the key factors considered in the architecture design are energy efficiency, low power usage effectiveness, low carbon emission.

Huawei Solution

Huawei FusionDC1000B with SmartLi UPS is an ideal selection. Huawei FusionDC1000B is a next generation, prefabricated smart modular data center — awarded the world's first "Uptime Tier IV Ready" certification — integrating power, cooling, rack and cabling, and management systems. Huawei SmartLi UPS is a Li-ion battery power system designed for data centers, slashing the physical footprint by 70% compared to traditional lead acid batteries for the same power and same backup time. Fully integrated and uptime certified design helps build the data center in record time. In addition, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) built in, data center reliability, availability, and efficiency are all significantly improved, through the use of Huawei's iPower, iCooling, and iManager systems.

Energy Efficiency

The aisle containment design isolates hot and cold air flows to eliminate hotspots, while closely coupled cooling reduces Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of a single module to  an optimum level. "Cooling intelligent optimization" reduces the energy consumption of cooling system by 15%. The wet film humidification reduces the energy consumption by 95%

Streamlined Presence

Modular, standardized architecture enables on-demand deployment; integrated power supply and distribution saves space; and remote, local, and mobile intelligent management simplifies Operations and Maintenance (O&M).

High Reliability

With functions such as pre-alarm and battery failure auto-shutdown, environment adaptability even under extreme conditions, and dehumidification at a constant temperature even at low loads, FusionModule2000 ensures the safe operation of IT equipment.

Huawei Adds Value

Moro Hub's Green Data Centre powered by FusionDC1000B with SmartLi UPS, which is a flexible, modular and scalable facility built with the focus on being a carbon-neutral facility with highly interconnected networks, high availability, and security. Additionally, the state-of-the-art facility is designed in a way to benefit smart space utilization. The facility offers power reliability and high scalability for space and resources to ensure the future growth of the Data Centre while ensuring compliance with the UAE's digital and data laws and regulations.

“We are pleased to have Huawei as our key technology provider for the largest solar powered green data center in the world. This is an important step. Powered by Huawei's breakthrough technology, it is the largest Data Centre to use 100 per cent renewable energy, helping us to take part in fortifying the UAE's sustainable development goals. With fully integrated IT & facilities, we are able to manage the data center facility with least amount of intervention and fastest deployment, which lowered down our overall operation costs. We are quite impressed by the intelligent features of Huawei SmartLi UPS, which is 70% smaller, 70% lighter and the lifespan is 2-3X longer. The world's largest green data center is in line with the vision of Dubai 10X initiative, strengthening the UAE's position as a global destination for digital technologies and increasing its contribution to the national economy by advancing innovation and future technologies. We believe there will be more opportunities to cooperate with Huawei on our journey of exploring the answers now to the challenges 10 years in the future. “said Mohammad Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Moro Hub.
