Huawei and KMUTT Join Hands to Establish the Green Energy Academy

Jul 25, 2022

[Bangkok, Thailand, 21th July 2022] Huawei Digital Power joined hands with King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) to establish the Green Energy Academy with the goal to nurture the future of digital power development and accelerating the transformation of the energy sector through educating the youth of Thailand.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr. Logan Yu, President of Digital Power Dept, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Asst. Prof. Dr. Prasert Kanthamanon, Senior Vice President for Administrative Affairs of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), to mark the start of a long-term partnership between the two parties and underline another significant step toward the era of carbon neutrality in Thailand.

Under this partnership, both parties will develop 3 different levels of courseware and learning materials that ranges from basic knowledge of solar and its solutions, to the installation and design guidance for rooftop solar and floating solar farms. It aims to help students identify their future career path, cultivate knowledge of solar at an early stage, and educate and reshape them from new graduates into experienced technical supervisors.

Mr. Logan Yu said: “Huawei Digital Power is committed to integrating digital and power electronics technologies to drive the energy transition and build a greener and brighter future. We currently operate in over 2.4GW solar rooftops and solar farms in Thailand and have helped reduced 6.72 million tons of carbon emission in Thailand so far. With the background we have, we plan to utilize our knowledge, appliances, and experiences with solar energy solutions to create a bridge between green ICT infrastructure and academia. Both Huawei and KMUTT aim to nurture the future talents of Thailand and equip them with the necessary knowledge, education, and skillset to pursue their future careers. Graduates from this program will become one of Thailand’s most valuable future workforce due to the rapid rise of the carbon neutrality trend in Thailand and worldwide.”

Asst. Prof. Dr. Prasert added: “This joint initiative is expected to bring forward well-rounded green energy courses that are open to all students and non-students with knowledge equivalent to third-year engineering undergraduates, as well as offering hands-on experience with a Green Energy Classroom, supplied with the latest FusionSolar Smart PV solutions, and advanced solar rooftop at KMUTT by Huawei. Furthermore, this collaboration will offer internship programs at Huawei, which I believe are a very rare opportunity for future engineers. This green energy academy is expected to benefit at least 200 participating students in the next 3 years and will provide many talented acquisitions for the future carbon-neutral Thailand.”

Through this collaboration, Huawei and KMUTT aspire to create more awareness of the fundamentals of green energy with knowledge and education for students at an early start of their career and are committed to continue this initiative in accordance with the increasing needs for a green ICT infrastructure in Thailand.
