Recently, Omdia, a global technology research powerhouse, released the Prefabricated Modular Data Center Report - 2023, which provides insights into and analysis of the global prefabricated modular data center market dynamics, market share, and development trend. According to the report, Huawei's prefabricated modular data center solution ranked first in terms of global market share in 2023, its 10th year in a row in the top spot.
Ten Years of Effort - Leading the Trend of Prefabricated Modular Construction
As AI makes waves across the world, the demand for intelligent computing continues to grow rapidly, driving the transition of the data center industry from IDC to AIDC. In the traditional construction mode, it takes over 18 months to design and deliver a 1000-rack data center. The prefabricated modular solution, by contrast, reduces delivery time by 50% through concurrent factory prefabrication and onsite construction. This has led to it becoming the mainstream data center construction mode.
Over the past decade, Huawei has continuously invested in R&D and innovation of prefabricated modular data center solutions. Such perseverance has helped us build the world's No.1 prefabricated modular data center brand. We have shipped more than 8000 containers, ranking No.1 in global shipments for ten consecutive years.
In 2012, Huawei launched the first-generation FusionDC and successfully delivered the first aII-in-one solution, setting a new trend in prefabricated data center construction.
In 2014, Huawei FusionDC topped the global prefabricated modular data center market for the first time. Since then, Huawei has led the industry for ten consecutive years.
In 2018, Huawei revolutionized the data center construction mode. We integrated the containerized assembly building and modular data center technology, and developed the unique building-level solution to build the world's first 5-layer stacked prefabricated modular data center.
In 2023, Huawei launched the FusionDC 5.0 hyper-converged prefabricated modular data center, which adopts the innovative "1+4+N" ecosystem mode: one unified architecture, four core modules, and collaboration with N excellent partners. In this way, we productized engineering and prefabricated products to build a 1000-rack data center in half a year, reducing the TTM by 50%.
Seizing the Momentum - Accelerated Global Application of Prefabricated Modular Data Centers
Huawei's prefabricated modular data center solution FusionDC is designed for outdoor scenarios without buildings. It features a modular design, prefabricated delivery, and onsite building block construction, and supports rapid deployment and elastic evolution. It has been widely adopted by the carrier, IDC, government, and other sectors, gaining wide recognition from the market and customers.
Designed for large-scale data centers, Huawei's FusionDC1000C can build a 1000-rack data center in half a year through productized engineering and modular products. Core modules are prefabricated and pre-commissioned, achieving a prefabrication rate of up to 90%. In addition, the three types of waste generated during onsite construction are greatly reduced and over 85% of materials can be recycled, reducing carbon emissions in an E2E manner.
Adopted by Chengdu AI Computing Center in China, the solution innovatively integrates advanced technologies such as the PowerPOD and iCooling. Prefabricated equipment and fast onsite stacking of building blocks cut the TTM by 50%, reduced construction waste by 80%, and achieved rapid service rollout and low carbon emissions throughout the lifecycle.
Designed for small- and medium-sized data centers, Huawei FusionDC1000B integrates the power supply, cooling, IT, and battery modules into prefabricated containers to realize one DC per layer and one-stop fast delivery. The containers can also provide building-like quality.
By using the solution, the Galaxy Backbone Data Center (Phase 2) in Nigeria set a new record for the construction time of data centers of this size in the country, taking just one month to hoist 17 containers and commission the equipment. This made it the first data center in Nigeria to achieve Uptime Tier IV Design and Facility certification.
Huawei Data Center Facility will continue to innovate and integrate, and work with global partners to redefine the prefabricated construction mode, explore greater business potential, and march into the next decade of prefabricated modular data centers.
