[Jakarta, Indonesia, 12 December, 2023] In a groundbreaking initiative to strengthen regional cooperation and foster sustainable development, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the ASEAN Foundation have signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Huawei on 12 December 2023, at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Derry Aman, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to ASEAN, H.E. Madame Hou Yanqi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN, Ms. Song Beibei, Executive Director of ASEAN-China Cooperation Fund.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by high-level officials, including H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, and H.E. Amb. Heng Sarith, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN, who the significance of collaborative efforts in driving progress.
The agreements are a step towards strengthening ties and open the door to joint efforts in key areas, including energy efficiency, conservation, and the use of renewable energy. It also underscores a shared commitment to empowering the region's youth through digital transformation initiatives.
Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ASEAN Centre for Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "This collaboration with Huawei is a testament to our shared commitment to sustainable energy practices in the ASEAN region,” he said. “By leveraging Huawei's technological expertise, we aim to drive innovation and contribute to the targets outlined in the ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation Phase II: 2021 – 2025."

The ASEAN Foundation is equally excited about the prospects of the partnership. Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director stated: "The MoU signing with Huawei is a strategic move to propel our flagship program, the ASEAN Seeds for the Future. This collaboration will provide youth in the region with invaluable opportunities for growth and development in the digital landscape."
