DC BESS+Charger Solution Makes Ultra-fast Charging Possible Despite Limited Grid Capacity

The electric vehicle industry is pivotal to transportation electrification and serves as a vital scenario for renewable energy consumption. As the adoption of electric vehicles accelerates across Europe, existing and new charging infrastructure—both in urban areas and along highways—faces significant hurdles, including grid capacity constraints, lengthy power application processes, and huge reconstruction costs. To address these industry pain points, Huawei has launched the next-generation DC BESS+Charger solution. Through groundbreaking innovation, this solution overcomes the pain point of limited grid capacity, enabling simplified station construction and true plug-and-play deployment.

DC BESS+Charger Solution

Despite limited grid capacity, the DC BESS+Charger solution requires a minimum power input of only 50 kW, enabling ultra-fast charging stations to be deployed in as fast as one week. Lower reliance on upstream power supplies makes grid connection more accessible for charging stations. The direct connection of the DC bus to the DC BESS prevents system breakdown caused by current backfeed during sudden charging interruptions, ensuring power grid stability. With less power loss from conversion, the DC BESS achieves a 92.1% round-trip efficiency, optimizing electricity costs and maximizing the value of every kilowatt-hour of green power. Coupled with the power capacity of existing stations, a charging station can accommodate more parking spots to serve more drivers. With intelligent operations and time-of-use arbitrage, the solution delivers a payback period 1.5 years shorter than the industry average, ensuring high-quality, long-term operational success of charging stations. The DC BESS+Charger solution has been successfully deployed across countries including China, Italy, and the Netherlands, accelerating the adoption of ultra-fast charging across all scenarios. By enabling the precise supply and efficient consumption of green energy, this solution makes transportation more sustainable, economical, and convenient. It represents a synergy between the energy and transportation sectors, creating shared value for both.
