Huawei Wins Mission Critical Tech Innovation Award for Edge Data Center at DCD Latam Awards 2022

Sept 20, 2022

[Cancun, Mexico, September 20, 2022] Huawei has recently received the Mission Critical Technology Innovation Award at the DCD Latam Awards 2022, for FusionModule500, a modular, edge data center solution. The award recognizes its leadership in developing innovative micro data centers to meet the ever-growing and evolving demands for edge computing.

"We are delighted that our FusionModule500 has been presented with the award by the DCD Latam Awards judging panel. This award represents an endorsement of our continued investment in edge data center innovations. We will continue to provide our partners and customers with quickly-deployable, energy efficient, reliable, and smart mini data centers, and help the industry to reduce carbon emissions," said Ivan Chen, CEO of Huawei Data Center Facility Business Latin America Region.

The edge computing market is experiencing massive growth, thanks to the arrival of emerging technologies, such as 5G, IoT, and artificial intelligence (AI). Building data centers at the edge of the last-mile network will unleash organizations' competitive advantages by bringing computer resources physically closer to the end user.

By 2025, International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates that there will be 41.6 billion connected IoT devices, or 'things,' generating 79.4 zettabytes (ZB) of data. According to the IDC research, over 50% of new IT infrastructure will be deployed at the edge by 2023.

To help organizations across various industries achieve resilience, scalability, and sustainability goals and put computing closer to the people and devices using it, Huawei developed the FusionModule series, which are smart modular DC solutions. FusionModule500 is one of them. It is a new-generation mini data center solution designed to meet essential requirements of edge computing in a variety of commercial environments, such as finance, government, education and medical, as well as Small- to Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

It integrates the Power Distribution Unit (PDU), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), monitoring systems, cooling units, backup power, and fire extinguishing modules into one cabinet, significantly reducing the physical footprint as well as costs. The biggest innovative aspect of FusionModule500 is the Lithium Battery for a 6kW UPS in just 3.6 U's space.

The mini modular DC solution features:

Simple: With all components prefabricated, preinstalled, and preconfigured, onsite installation and deployment of this plug-and-play mini data center can be completed within just two hours, reducing deployment time by 85% compared with traditional solutions.

Green: The highly integrated design and the one-cabinet-one-DC approach helps save space by 50% compared with the traditional solution. The hot and cold aisle containment improves cooling efficiency while significantly reducing dust and noise. The lithium batteries are used for backup power, delivering a smaller size, longer service life and a better Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in the entire life cycle.

Smart: FusionModule500 is equipped with a smart management system and a mobile Operations and Maintenance (O&M) App, allowing remote and unified management of multiple mini data centers and greatly reducing O&M labor costs.

Reliable: Huawei SmartLi uses highly stable lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells to ensure a reliable power supply. In addition, the rack door will be automatically opened in case of the cooling system failure and the temperature exceeds the limit.

Huawei will double down on the research and development of next-generation smart modular edge data center solutions that are sustainable, simplified, autonomous driving, and reliable to meet the evolving requirements of the ever-growing industry.
