Embracing the Next-generation Data Center

The Asia Pacific region is among the fastest developing data center regions in the world, driven by skyrocketing data usage and accelerated digital transformation of businesses. Meanwhile, the demand for green data centers grows rapidly as the region pursues carbon neutrality and net zero carbon emissions.

“As the world‘s most populous and most diversified region, the Asia Pacific, is a key driver of the digital economy. Huawei Digital Power pays attention to the Asia Pacific market. We’d love to cooperate with all partners in the region to innovate solutions, advance the industry chains, and develop industry policies and standards to meet our common targets for a better data center industry and faster economic growth in the Asia-Pacific,” said Boham Sun, President of Huawei Digital Power APAC, in his opening speech.

Building Consensus on Sustainable Data Centers

Basilio Dias Araujo, Deputy for Coordinating Minister of Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Affairs at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, Republic of Indonesia, noted that the digital economy will fundamentally transform Asian Pacific countries with higher GDP growth and more equal development for the people. We need to continually promote green energy policies, invest for the future, and drive innovations.

Gautham Gnanajothi, Global Research Vice President, Energy and Environment, Frost & Sullivan, shared his insights into eight key trends shaping the data center industry. He mentioned that while the focus on sustainability and decarbonization is higher than ever in data centers, aspects such as the role of AI in optimizing data center operations and the use of lithium-ion batteries are gaining a lot of prominence among data center operators.

“Cambodia is a thriving economy driven by a strong vision to achieve high income and carbon neutrality by 2050. The digital economy is the driving thrust behind this vision, and Ezecom, as the leading ISP, needs to expand its digital infrastructure through Data Centre capacity building. An innovative leadership team helps the transformation journey to meet better efficiency and effectiveness,” said Yuni Lee Heathcote, CEO of EZECOM.

“For overall sustainability and energy efficiency, PUE alone does not provide the full picture. It is possible to reduce PUE but increase energy use! According to sustainable design principles, we should first reduce demand (consumption) at source; then improve efficiency, and finally, use renewable resources. IT Efficiency, using metrics such as SERT scores, is the first step; followed facilities efficiency metrics such as PUE and WUE,” said Matthew Silvester, Director of Meinhardt (Thailand).

Releasing White Paper on the UPS S-ECO Technology

As a highlight of the summit, Huawei unveiled the UPS S-ECO Technology White Paper, which delves into applications and operational principles of the S-ECO mode. According to the white paper, S-ECO is an innovative UPS working mode based on the S-ECO technology. It enables 0 ms transfer time between any modes, suppresses high-voltage surges, and implements active harmonic compensation. The S-ECO mode delivers high efficiency in the full load range. When the bypass supplies power, the UPS power consumption is extremely low, and the system efficiency is greater than 99.1% at its peak or 98.5% when the load rate is above 20%.

The S-ECO mode facilitates green transformation and will trigger a power conservation revolution for data centers.

Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to work with customers and partners to build low-carbon, smart data centers, and strive to advance sustainable digital transformation in the region through continuous technological innovations.
