[Shanghai, China, September 20, 2023] At the New Digital Industry Energy Infrastructure session during HUAWEI CONNECT 2023, more than 200 leading figures, experts, and partners in the industry gather together in Shanghai to discuss cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions for fields such as data center facility, critical power, and site power, and share successful practices worldwide, aiming to raise the intelligence level of energy infrastructure in the digital industry.
Building new digital industry energy infrastructure to enable more connections per watt and squeeze more computing power out of each watt
Fang Liangzhou, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Digital Power, said in his keynote speech that "as the world is working to realize digital transformation and carbon neutrality, highly reliable and low-carbon energy infrastructure has become unstoppable trends in the digital industry. We believe that intelligent infrastructure is a key means to promote the development of the data center industry. Zhang Fan, General Manager of Global Marketing & Solution Sales Dept for Data Center Facility & Critical Power, Huawei Digital Power, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Building New Digital Industry Energy Infrastructure to Power the Green World".
He said that "In a digital and intelligent era, the digital economy is booming and global connections, computing power and data volume are exploding. The pillars underpinning this process are data centers, communications networks, and sensing devices." Huawei enables ubiquitous green computing and storage by building green, simple, smart, and reliable data centers, empowers green connections by creating a simplified and low-carbon site power network, and secures power for the digital industry by providing extremely reliable critical power. Huawei aims to enable more connections per watt and squeeze more computing power out of each watt by building new digital industry energy infrastructure, bridging the energy divide to power the digital world.
Sharing green practices of digital infrastructure for an intelligent future
As the era of intelligent computing is upon us, there is a growing demand for foundation models and high computing power, further driving the continuous and rapid growth of the digital infrastructure industry. During this session, multiple renowned guests share their practices in large, medium, and small data centers as well as critical power supply when pursuing green and sustainable development.
Bjorn Brynjulfsson, CEO of Borealis Data Center, mentioned that "In an era where sustainability and carbon neutrality have become essential, the careful selection of partners and data center locations takes on profound significance. We will explore how Iceland's unique geographical advantages, in synergy with Borealis' strategic data center placements, to ensure that high-density workloads thrive. By locating data centers at the source of renewable energy and transmitting data around, a bridge between continents can be formed."
Yang Yu, Vice President of Centrin Data, made a keynote speech entitled "Centrin Data & Huawei - Building Computing Infrastructure Through Joint Innovation." He pointed out that Centrin Data would work with Huawei to provide innovative, green, and reliable power supply and distribution solutions in an effort to build a solid foundation for computing power. Centrin Data is now building a green, cost-effective, product-oriented, and flexible data center in Ulanqab, which is to be delivered by the end of this year. This project will serve as a benchmark data center with generation-grid-load-storage synergy.
At the session, Centrin Data officially released the "Centrin Data Intelligent Power Pod". Facing challenges arising from power supply and distribution in large data centers, Centrin Data and Huawei plan to provide a time-saving, power-saving, footprint-saving, and worry- free power supply and distribution solution. This solution features quick delivery, high energy efficiency, and full-link visualization. It is able to issue warnings in case of high temperature at low load. All these breakthroughs are meant to ensure stable operations of data centers.
Li Ya, Vice President of Boda Data, said that: "Global computing power will grow exponentially amid the trend of artificial intelligence. In addition to providing underlying capabilities in terms of infrastructure and hosting services, Boda Data hopes to create new values together with ecosystem partners. By deploying Huawei's FusionPower6000 3.0 solution in Qianhai Intelligent Computing Center, Boda Data has set up a full-chain convergent, prefabricated, and AI-based power supply and distribution system, making data center operations simple, green, smart, and reliable."
Wei Anlin, Director of Data Center Infrastructure of Haitong Securities, believed that high reliability and energy efficiency are the two major goals of data center development in the financial industry. Looking into the future, Haitong Securities will leverage more technologies including AI to improve power system reliability, cooling system energy efficiency, and O&M management effectiveness, ultimately building more sustainable and robust data center infrastructure.
Felipe Miranda, Country Manager of SQM China Lithium, said that "Huawei critical power solution ensures operation and production continuity for SQM, enabling digital transformation of the nonmetal mineral and chemical industry in Chile."
During HUAWEI CONNECT 2023, low-carbon solutions for small, medium, and large data centers, critical power, and site power based on the concept of GSSR (green, simple, smart, and reliable) were unveiled in the exhibition area of new digital industry energy infrastructure. The FusionPower6000 3.0 solution is a preferred solution for power supply and distribution systems in large data centers. With full-chain convergence and optimized key nodes, the solution cuts the footprint by 40% as it reduces the number of cabinets from 22 to 11. It also raises the efficiency of the entire chain to 97.8% by shortening links. The FusionModule2000 6.0 solution is a one-stop solution for small- and medium-sized data centers. It adopts a modular design (one data center per module), and can be deployed within one week rather than one month before. The Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) series ensure both reliability and efficiency, making it ideal for critical power supply scenarios.
There is an ancient Chinese saying, "Nothing, not even mountains and oceans, can separate people with shared goals and vision."
