[Shenzhen, China, July 23, 2026] Huawei Digital Power and TÜV Rheinland have jointly completed the Safety Mark safety testing for Huawei Smart String Residential Energy Storage System (LUNA2000 S1). The system has officially received the highest-level Safety Mark certification from TÜV Rheinland, becoming the first residential energy storage system globally to obtain this level of certification. The two parties held a certification ceremony to witness a new milestone in residential energy storage safety standards.

As the World’s First, Huawei Residential ESS LUNA2000 S1 Receives TÜV Rheinland Safety Mark Highest-Level Safety Certification
As a globally leading independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization, TÜV Rheinland enjoys broad recognition in the global new energy sector. With the rapid development of the energy storage industry, traditional standards and certification systems can no longer fully meet the requirements for high-quality industry development.
Based on deep insights into energy storage application scenarios, TÜV Rheinland has established an energy storage safety classification system by further refining safety requirements beyond existing regulations and standards. This system provides the industry with a more systematic and comprehensive safety evaluation framework, driving energy storage toward higher safety levels and higher-quality development.
The safety classification system consists of three levels:
Level 1: Basic Safety (Basic)
Meeting fundamental regulatory and standard requirements, Level 1 represents the baseline for market access and provides essential safety protection for energy storage systems.
Huawei Residential ESS LUNA2000 S1 has passed the UL 9540A:2025 fire and explosion safety test, validating its reliable safety protection capabilities under thermal runaway scenarios. It also complies with the high-level functional safety requirements of ISO 13849-1:2023, enabling dual-redundant protection for critical safety functions and ensuring reliable system operation.
Level 2: Enhanced Safety (Plus)
Level 2 further enhances mechanical, electrical, thermal, and environmental protection capabilities, achieving no fire at the battery pack level during thermal runaway events.
Huawei Residential ESS LUNA2000 S1 adopts enhanced insulation protection design and complies with the IEC 62477-1 international electrical safety standard, significantly reducing leakage risks and preventing electric shock hazards to ensure all-weather household electricity safety.
Through multiple layers of safety protection, the system prevents fire and explosion at the system level under thermal runaway conditions, providing more reliable protection for households.
Level 3: Superior Safety (Prime)
As the highest-level safety certification, Prime requires energy storage systems to prevent thermal runaway propagation at the battery pack level and protect human safety under extreme scenarios, even in the event of passive ignition.
Huawei Residential ESS LUNA2000 S1 successfully withstood a 20-minute external fire exposure challenge without explosion, effectively preventing the risk of secondary combustion or explosion. Meanwhile, under extreme challenges such as internal arcing and thermal runaway propagation, the system continues to achieve cell-level thermal runaway non-propagation, with no fire, explosion, or personal injury, comprehensively safeguarding household energy safety.
The certification awarded by TÜV Rheinland to Huawei Digital Power represents the world’s first highest-level Safety Mark certification in the residential energy storage sector. It fully demonstrates that Huawei Smart String Residential ESS LUNA2000 S1 has achieved globally leading capabilities in safety technologies.
Setting Higher Safety Standards to Drive High-Quality Development of the Energy Storage Industry

Dong Bin, General Manager of PVE & ESS Product Solar & Commercial Product, TÜV Rheinland Greater China, said:
“As the global residential energy storage industry enters a phase of rapid growth, increasing installation scenarios and application complexity have brought new safety challenges, placing higher requirements on energy storage system safety. Establishing higher-level safety evaluation systems and driving industry-wide safety improvements are critical to sustainable development. Huawei Digital Power’s Smart String Residential ESS LUNA2000 S1 series achieved cell-level thermal runaway non-propagation during testing, demonstrating its outstanding safety design and technical capabilities, and leading the energy storage industry toward higher quality and safety standards.”

Cheng Hongbing, Director of Residential Smart PV & ESS Products at Huawei Digital Power, said:
“We sincerely appreciate TÜV Rheinland for granting Huawei Residential ESS the industry’s first Prime-level highest safety certification. This recognition validates Huawei Digital Power’s safety capabilities and demonstrates our commitment and responsibility to advancing high-quality development of the residential PV and ESS industry. Huawei has always remained committed to long-term value creation and developed products based on safety requirements exceeding industry standards, providing users with safer and more reliable smart PV and energy storage solutions. Going forward, Huawei Residential Smart PV & ESS will work together with TÜV Rheinland to continuously advance higher safety standards for the residential energy storage industry.”
Extreme Safety, Leading the Residential ESS Industry Toward Higher Safety Standards
The TÜV Rheinland Safety Mark Prime-level highest safety certification awarded to Huawei Smart String Residential Energy Storage System LUNA2000 S1 marks a new milestone in residential energy storage safety. This achievement not only recognizes Huawei’s leading safety technologies but also provides an important reference for establishing higher safety standards across the industry.
Going forward, Huawei Digital Power will collaborate with TÜV Rheinland and industry partners to build a comprehensive safety evaluation framework for residential energy storage, foster stronger industry-wide safety consensus with higher standards and stricter requirements, raise the overall safety baseline of the industry, and drive the global residential energy storage sector toward a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.
